Bates Students who are U.S. Citizens and have lived on-campus for at least one semester, are eligible to vote in Maine!
Batesie’s Voting Rights
1. If you’re standing in line when the polls close, you can vote.
2. If you need to register to vote, you can do that in person (bring your Bates ID, know the last 4 digits of your SSN, and if you don’t know your dorm’s physical address, you can google it or visit this folder.)
3. If you get the wrong ballot, bring it to the warden immediately. Do not take it with you or vote. If someone tells you there’s no other way, call the Election Protection Hotline (number below) from your cell phone. Do not leave until it’s straightened out or you could lose your right to vote. Don’t let a mistake stop you from voting!
4. If you or your child is 17 for the primary, but 18 for the general election, they can vote in Maine (and register!)
If at any point, you feel unsafe or intimidated by anyone, you are urged to call: Election Protection Hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE, Maine Civil Liberties’ voter hotline at 1-207-204-VOTE or contact Dean Carl Steidel at Bates at 207-613-5647
