Voter Registration

Notice for ALL Bates Students:

If you move dorms/residences in between semesters or school years, you MUST re-register using the new dorm/residence address. We strongly recommend that you register to vote as soon as you move into your new residence to save yourself and the City Clerk time when an election comes around.

Steps to Register To Vote

Step 1:

Registering to vote in Maine:

  1. During an election cycle, you can obtain a registration card from Ladd Library or Post&Print, or;

  2. In a non-election season, go to City Hall to the City Clerk’s office to register to vote in person.

Registering to vote in your home state:

  1. Find your local government website’s directions for how to register online, or request a registration card*

*Please be aware that some states will require you to request a card through the mail and then ship it back to the state. We ask that you complete this registration process as soon as possible to avoid delays in the mail system affecting your voting plan.

Step 2:

  1. Correctly fill out the Maine registration card, referring to this post for assistance: https://www.instagram.com/p/CFS1w0pM0ji/

  2. If you want additional instructions for filling out the card, visit this shared google folder.

  3. If it is an election cycle, return the card to a collection box at Ladd Library or Post and Print. Outside of election cycles we will not provide collection boxes on campus. You can mail your registration card to City Hall or deliver it in person.

Helpful Tips:

1. Everyone’s mailing address is 65 Campus Ave unless you live and receive mail off-campus. For a list of dorm physical addresses, visit this folder.
2. You only have to list your SNN (last 4 digits) if you’re registering in Maine for the first time.
3. Off-campus students should see our post on how to register here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CEE-3e9H41T/
4. The previously registered section says ‘county’ and not ‘country’

Step 3:

Check that you have been successfully registered by going to vote.org and input your information to find out. If vote.org does not accurately display your registration, call the city clerk’s office at (207) 513-3124 and ask them to check on it. If you registered to vote in your home state, call the city clerk there.
